Going everywhere, Zhao navigates music with his own compass. Creating and collaborating on thought-provoking pieces, audio and visual, Zhao's transmutable artistry scintillates when a project calls for it. The abrupt synergy between him, South Africa's Black Coffee and Karyendasoul is proof of his magical adeptness. 'Any Other Way', now a perennial classic, leaves the househead excitably patient, observing that great artists activate properly-administrated appreciation instead of badly-governed adoration.
Sensorily-kicking all barriers down, Zhao takes Asian stereotypes on a new route paved with detectable butt-kicking. With an equally stereotypical broad forehead that loudly signals "BIG BRAIN", this man does not disappoint. Evident in his stage, forest and kitchen alchemy, Zhao is connected to intellect and source. Discernible by the supersensory inquisitive, a mundane couch critic may miss this.
Exploring his social media pages, one will find ingenuity, experimentation, education, fun and a sense of detachment. Unbothered by time or attention, Zhao continues to press on with work he feels simultaneously matters and does not matter. He is a mini Burning Man, yet unpretentious and fully aware that everything is transient and in his place, sometime, somewhere, will sit another Zhao, someday. It is refershing to find artists like him who quietly persevere without expectations other than to have space to inspect and invite those who want to come look-see and hear-know. Vanity and narcissism control so much of what we injest. Zhao does not seem to defy the fact intentionally. He appears admirably unconcerned, shielded and nestled in a cocoon, from a distance.
We would not want it any other way.
